Only a few weeks left till registration… D:

And I STILL have no idea what language to choose. It’s to the point some of the people in my history class are trying to help me out haha. One of my old high school teachers is insisting I choose Hindi, my mom thinks Japanese would make me happiest but both her and my dad think Chinese would be most useful for me. I just… don’t know. At least I narrowed it down from like 8 to 3 now. So here they are:

Japanese: I’m a geek when it comes to their culture. I love their food. I did kendo for a few years. I know a bit about the history and culture and it’s just so… freaking… cool. I also know where I can get lots of resources to practice. But the problem is only Japan speaks Japanese.

Chinese: I don’t support what their government does, especially with Tibet. I can’t pronounce the words that well either. My friend from China tries to help me, but I end up getting tongue tied haha. But it would be sooo useful for jobs and studying abroad in other regions besides China because SO many people speak it. And the fact that it’s a pretty old language is cool. I just… I don’t know, I don’t feel like I’d be very happy about learning Chinese. Like it’s only an obligation.

Hindi: I love how India has all the different senses when it comes to their culture. And I want to try this delicious spicy food. Also in love with Bollywood. And then I think a couple other countries around their have some larger Hindi speaking communities too so that would be nice. Then there’s the fact that Hinduism and Buddhism originated here… but I don’t know. I’d really love to go here for study abroad to get the entire culture.

It is just so hard for me to make up my mind. Ugh. D: Why is this so hard?

Torn between learning Arabic, Japanese, Chinese, Polish, Farsi, and Hindi. What to choose…

Arabic: I love the Middle East and I’m still thinking of doing that Middle Eastern major. It’s hard, but my friend from Saudi is going to help me if I choose this. Definitely able to use this through a bunch of countries, and especially in major areas where I want to travel.

Japanese: If I choose to do this most likely if I do an Asian major (WHY CAN’T I CHOOSE BOTH. WHY.) because Japan is my favorite not be generic. And then I can help my dad read his company’s powerpoints, read the food labels at Uwajimaya, watch anime and manga in Japanese… useful for the little things.

Chinese: We get a lot of Chinese-Canadian customers down where I live and it would be really useful for helping them, or even when they just randomly ask for directions. I also love the history behind the language itself. But I have some major troubles pronouncing some of the stuff. I can’t even pronounce my Chinese friend’s name correctly…

Polish: My own culture, haha. Really don’t have much interest in learning it though.

Farsi: Persian history and because of some stuff from my family’s past really. My mom used to use Farsi for some commands with me when I was little too.

Hindi: Hinduism is so freaking fun, I love how diverse it is and all the different ways they worship. I used to want to go to India but only knew the basics like the Taj Mahal and India, but now I really really really want to go. Bad. Also have people my dad knows who can help with this.

Sooo…. any ideas?
